Annotated Bibliographies Definitions A bibliography is a list of sources (books, journals, websites, periodicals, etc.) one has used for researching a topic. Bibliographies are sometimes called "references" or "works cited" depending on the style format you are using. A bibliography usually just includes the bibliographic information (i.e., the author, title, publisher, etc.). An annotation is a summary and/or evaluation. Therefore, an annotated bibliography includes a summary and/or evaluation of each of the sources. Depending on your project or the assignment, your annotations may do one or more of the following:

The World Wide Web has rapidly become the dominant Internet tool, combining hypertext and multimedia to provide a network of educational, governmental, and commercial resources. Much of its power comes from the fact that it presents information in a variety of formats while it also organizes that information through hypertext links. Because of the multimedia nature of the web combined with the poor design of some websites, many Internet surfers cannot access the full range of resources this revolutionary tool provides. Some visitors: * Cannot see graphics because of visual impairments. * Cannot hear audio because of hearing impairments. * Use slow Internet connections and modems or equipment that cannot easily download large files. * Have difficulty navigating sites that are poorly organized with unclear directions because they have learning disabilities, speak English as a second language, or are younger than the average user.

The WebAIM Guide to Web Accessibility is likely the most comprehensive accessibility resource available. The CD-ROM based training contains the equivalent of over 1000 printed pages of instructional materials, plus hundreds of examples, simulations, videos, and other accessibility resources. This CD-ROM based training is an excellent solution for learning or training others in your organization about all aspects of web accessibility.

Learner-centered education places the student at the center of education. It begins with understanding the educational contexts from which a student comes. It continues with the instructor evaluating the student's progress towards learning objectives. By helping the student acquire the basic skills to learn, it ultimately provides a basis for learning throughout life. It therefore places the responsibility for learning on the student, while the instructor assumes responsibility for facilitating the student's education. A Research Consultation is a one-on-one appointment with a librarian for extensive, in-depth research assistance. If you need more help than can be provided at the Reference Desk or from the Ask A Librarian service, you may sign up for a Research Consultation appointment. We will do our best to match you with a librarian who has some expertise in the subject area of your research. Appointments are generally scheduled between 8 am through 6 pm Monday through Friday, but exceptions may be made if there are extenuating circumstances.
